Movie Pilot and Catch 22 Summary:
Catch 22 Summary:
Catch 22 is novel written by Joseph Heller which discusses the events a pilot named John Yossarian experiences while being enlisted during World War Two. Joseph Heller presents the war in a very sarcastic and funny manor which makes the novel enjoyable for most readers because it makes war out to be a very stupid thing. The novel is not in chronological order so it is a little difficult to follow along, but all in all this novel is very recommended. A man named Colonel Cathcart runs an Air Force Military Base in a town called Pianosa where Yossarian and his comrades reside during the war. Colonel Cathcart is constantly increasing the number of missions Yossarian and his fellow soldiers have to fly because Cathcart believes it will raise his military status. While out flying a mission, Yossarians aircraft is hit by the enemy and one of his good friends Snowden ends up dead. This event effects Yossarian in a very negative way. He stops wearing his uniform for a bit because it was covered in Snowden's blood and he watches his friend's funeral from afar. After this detrimental event, Yossarian tries to slowly stop flying missions by creating excuses such as "getting sick" and having to check himself into a hospital. Towards the end of the novel, the amount of missions Yossarian is required to fly gets too much for him to handle and he ends up getting the chance to be sent home by Colonel Cathcart because he realizes that Yossarian has done his duty. The only way for this to become possible though is if Yossarian agrees to participate in one of many Parades that take place during the novel and if he spoke positive about the war. Yossarian refuses to do so though but eventually ends up escaping from the military base.
